Well, I think it is safe to say the honeymoon is over for our re-elected POTUS, as the first one hundred days of his second term is about to pass us by. This period of time is often looked upon to chart where an administration is going to lead the people that elected him in the years to come. So with that said let’s look at what has transpired in just these last one hundred days.
In no particular order, we the people have seen the following nationally:
An ideological fight over the sequester, which of course was spawned from the fertile brain of Mr. Obama himself, while afterwards only to be denounced by him publicly as a GOP weapon of fiscal destruction against the American people.
This was preceded by a national debt limit raise, again, to avoid the coming “fiscal cliff” crisis.
Never missing an opportunity to let a good crisis pass him by, the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, which actually was passed before his one hundred days of his second term. However, since it was used as a tool during the “fiscal cliff” crisis it seems appropriate to be discussed here. This act was implemented to raise taxes on high wage earners, because these citizens do not yet shoulder enough of the tax burden to yet satisfy the POTUS and his administration.
Unfortunately for nearly every other taxpaying citizen, this legislation was also accompanied with the sunset of tax breaks that was enjoyed by nearly every American.
So, the end game here was a massive raise of taxes on nearly everyone fortunate enough to still have gainful employment, and all because as responsible citizens we must put more skin in the game according to Mr. Obama.
Taxes and reckless spending were not the only issues to be pushed for by the POTUS during this time. Immigration reform, which has yet to pass, is by all accounts shaping up to be little more than an amnesty bill. This legislation seeks to address the supposed 11 million undocumented, otherwise known as illegal, immigrants.
The real problem here is more than the fiscal burden such an act will inflict upon the nation as a whole, but the actual numbers of immigrants that are being discussed. Not too many years ago when this issue was discussed, the typical number of illegal immigrants was placed in the 12 to 20 million range. But today, a far smaller number is being used, which smacks of deceit to the American public.
It is my opinion here, but when this passes, and it most likely will in some form or fashion, the actual number of people given amnesty will be upwards of 30 million. What this means as far as the total population of the United States is concerned is that almost overnight the United States population will increase by nearly 10%. Only time will tell. Though this was not accomplished in his first one hundred days, POTUS’ push for amnesty has been, and will be, doggedly pursued throughout his second term of office.
An assault upon the 2nd Amendment was begun by shamelessly using the tragic events of the Sandy Hook massacre as a convenient backdrop, and if there were any legislation that could be enacted that would stem, or better yet prevent, such atrocities from happening then most Americans I believe would say, “sign me up.”
Unfortunately, no law that could be passed will ever completely prevent, or even slow down, those in our citizenry with evil intent in their hearts. This is why there was such a high degree of public rejection of further “gun control” laws nationally. But Mr. Obama will continue throughout this next term to stump for tighter gun control laws, greater use of background checks that will not deter society’s criminal element in the least, and to seek the banning of specific types of firearms, ammunition clips, and ammunition.
And yet another terrorist action against the people of the United States took place in Boston during the city‘s annual marathon. It has to be stated that a very successful, and unprecedented, manhunt took place, but nevertheless, this terrorist action still took place on American soil. It was nice to see Mr. Obama not liken this tragedy to the “workplace” violence that transpired in Ft. Hood during his first term in office. However, given the botched terrorist actions over the past couple of years, like the underwear bomber and the Times Square bomber, then it would seem safe to say the events that happened in Boston will most likely not be the last our nation will have to endure from terrorists, from abroad as well as those that are home-grown.
Further foreign policy blunders have taken place recently, by settings red lines in sand towards Syria‘s administration. Mr. Obama stated these lines could not be crossed without consequence, and the lines of course are in reference to Syria’s use of chemical weapons upon its citizenry. A bold threat, but little reprisal as multiple intelligence agencies, including those of the administration all believe Sarin Gas has been used. Not to mention the tens of thousands that the Syrian regime has slain during their civil war.
This inaction will only embolden the enemies of the United States, as Mr. Obama reveals himself to be a weak leader with concerns to using military might. This same criticism can be used when discussing the issue of recalling American troops stationed overseas by using specific time tables for such withdrawals. All this will only embolden the enemies of our republic, and allows those same enemies to bide their time so they can regroup in even greater numbers than before.
Finally, let us not forget the burgeoning, some might say exploding, national debt! And to be thorough here, I will use data from his first term as well…I hope you, the reader, do not mind.
As of January 20th, 2009, Mr. Obama’s first official day as President of the United States, the national debt was just over $10.7 trillion dollars. Fast forward thru four years of stagnant economic growth, rampant unemployment, and exploding welfare cost, the American voting public decided to re-elect Mr. Obama. The first day of his second term the national debt had skyrocketed to over $16.4 trillion dollars, and still shows no signs of slowing down, because of the economic policies the POTUS has asked for and enacted when given by those on Capitol Hill.
That same debt has grown to over $400 billion dollars during Mr. Obama’s first one hundred days of his second term, and it must be stated, by the time his tenure as president of the United States of America ends, he will have raised the national debt more than every president before him combined.
Historically speaking, that would be 43 presidents versus a single president, or 232 years of national debt building versus only 8 years of unprecedented reckless and purposeful spending. The larger question now will be, will the nation be able to recover from Mr. Obama’s ineptitude?
